The Daytona, by Optos.

Here at Dipple & Conway we are committed to providing you with the best eye care possible, and this means keeping up to date with the latest technology so we can check your eye health as thoroughly and expertly as possible. Our latest equipment, the Daytona by Optos, allows for ultra-wide field imaging, which means that we can get an HD view of the retina, enabling us to see almost the entirety of the retina in one go.

Similar to the OCT, the Daytona will allow us to pick up lots of different eye and general health conditions sooner and more easily than by simply looking at the eye. This piece of equipment enables us to accurately examine the eye, allowing us to see your retina so clearly that we will be able to pick up on any conditions far sooner than previously possible. The sooner an eye condition is spotted and diagnosed, the sooner treatment can begin, potentially saving your eyesight in the process.

The Daytona is completely non-invasive, it will simply take a photo of your eye, allowing us to see up to 82% of the retina in a single image. Here at Dipple & Conway, our priority is always you, and we will be the first optician in the city to offer this service. This will be included as standard as part of our Vision Care Plan (VCP), and will be soon available in our Swaffham and Diss practices too.

We asked our clinical assistant, Donna, how she felt about the new equipment installation at our Norwich branch. Here are her thoughts…

How did you feel about having the new Datona equipment installed?

D: Delighted! We were all really pleased at Dipple and Conway Norwich to learn the news that we were going to have the new Optomap installed, not just for ourselves on the clinical side but more importantly for our clients. We had a really great and insightful training session too, so that we are all confident in how to get the best from the new equipment.

How is the Optomap different from other equipment?

D: The new Optomap allows optometrists to see more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. Traditionally only 10 - 15% of your retina can be viewed at any one time.

What is the main benefit of using this equipment?

D: The main benefit of using this equipment is that it allows the earliest detection of problems such as diabetic bleeds, nevus also known as freckles, retinal detachments, age related macular degeneration, glaucoma and high blood pressure. It is essential to have a healthy retina to avoid impaired vision or blindness.

How long does it take?

D: Taking an Optomap image is extremely quick and once the client is in the correct position, it is taken within seconds. It is a great addition to our current eye checks, without taking up too much extra of our client’s time.

Is it suitable for children?

D: Yes, absolutely, it is suitable for children. It is perfect for them actually, as they don’t have to sit still for very long and as many vision problems begin at an early age, we would highly recommend it for all.
